Chris Seagers provided me with a lot of reference, and the no-nonsense LCAC (Landing Craft Air Cushion) hovercraft used by the US Marines was key for both of the Covenant's smaller shuttles. The Lander was semi-amphibious, able to touch down on water. It was a fairly large craft, capable of supporting a survey team in establishing an off-world colony. As with the other ships, the Lander went through a number of generations before settling on the final size and proportions.
A final pass incorporated many elements that had been developed as full-size set pieces by the art department, as well as fleshing out the details on the exterior hull. I also took a stab at the docking mechanism from which the Lander was suspended in its berth under the Covenant mothership.
